Mombasa - Mombasa Governor, Ali Hassan Joho returned his gun as ordered by the government.
On Thursday, the government withdrew Joho’s security guards and ordered him to surrender his guns to the nearest police station.
The withdrawal of seven policemen attached to him was ordered by the Mombasa regional coordinator, Nelson Marwa, who accused them of causing violence in Malindi on Monday.
On the same day the policemen were recalled, Daily Nation reports that the Firearms Chief Licensing Officer Samuel Kimaru wrote to Joho asking him to surrender his guns.
However, the defiant Governor, while addressing a rally outside his office maintained that he had not misused his guns for the 20 years he has had them and vowed to not return them.
According to Citizen TV, the Governor changed his mind on Friday and surrendered one of his guns with Kimaru saying they expected the remaining one to be returned Saturday.
