Breaking: CORD announces demonstrations on Monday, Thursday next week

10 June 2016, 11:18

Nairobi - Opposition coalition CORD have announced anti-IEBC demonstrations on Monday and Thursday next week.

In a letter dated June 10 and addressed to the Nairobi County Police Commander, CORD said their demonstration will be peaceful and requested for security.

"We kindly request you to organise necessary security arrangements to ensure the safety of all leaders and wananchi who will participate in the demonstrations," reads part of the letter.

The coalition also confirmed that they have made arrangements for peace marshals who will guide and manage the demonstrators.

CORD on Monday promised to stage demos twice every week until the IEBC commissioners leave office after the government failed to meet opposition leaders to agree on how to solve the current IEBC standoff.

On Thursday, however, the President appointed an 11-member team to form a joint parliamentary committee to solve the stalemate.
