Nairobi - Bungoma Senator, Moses Wetangula’s driver still insists that their car was shot at and he did not hit a billboard as alleged by the police.
In his response to a police report indicating that he had recanted his earlier statement on the alleged shooting incident of Wetang’ula’s car on Thursday night, Samson Nyukuri, said the statement was false and that he was forced to sign a document he had not read and understood well by the police.
Wetang’ula was being driven to his Karen home on Thursday night when the gunmen allegedly shot at his car, but he escaped unhurt.
He claimed that the attack was an attempt to assassinate him and that he had earlier received anonymous death threats.
Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, who joined Wetang’ula at the scene and accompanied him to Kilimani police station where he recorded a statement, termed the attack as an assassination attempt that was aimed at silencing opposition.
However, police say investigations reveal that the car hit part of a billboard by the roadside.
