Uhuru to appoint 5 envoys
02 August 2013, 16:04
Nairobi - The five vacant ambassadorial positions in key missions abroad shall soon be filled by the President, amid rising concerns of lack of representations in the affected countries, Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho said.
In a response to a letter from Kibicho, President Uhuru Kenyatta assured him that he was aware that some missions were vacant after the term of the ambassadors expired, Daily Nation reports.
Kibicho went on to add that constitutionally there was no law requiring the President, who is the appointing authority, to fill up the positions and that he was taking his time to get the right candidates, in line with his government's strategy to use the missions abroad to strengthen economic ties and boost trade.
