Supreme Court re-instates Shinyalu MP

16 July 2014, 14:25 William Korir

Nairobi - The Supreme Court has re-instated Shinyalu MP Silverse Anami Lisamula after reversing an earlier ruling by the court of appeal on his election.

The decision was made Wednesday by the Judges who ruled that the initial case set up at the High Court was out of time.

They further ruled that the appeal was also time barred and that they could not make a ruling based on what was in fact an illegal case.

The ruling thus ensured that Lisamula returns to office.

He had been bundled out of office in April by the appeal court which had ruled that there was indeed a case to answer but quickly sought the clarification of the Supreme Court.

Lisamula is the latest MP to be saved by the Supreme Court on grounds of illegalities, with Othaya MP Mary Wambui also surviving on such grounds last month.
