Nairobi - More than 24 senators from the ruling Jubilee and Cord coalitions pledged to work together to ensure the country was safe and secure from such acts following the deadly attack at the Westgate Mall.
The officials paid a courtesy visit to Deputy President William Ruto in his office in Nairobi.
Led by the Speaker of the Senate, Ekwe Ethuro, and Senate Majority Leader, Kindiki Kithure, they asserted the need to come up with stringent measures through legislation to curb rising cases of insecurity across the country.
They also expressed their solidarity with President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy as they grappled with the aftermath of the dreadful attack.
“We have just demonstrated, terrorists can and must be fought mercilessly and defeated wherever it occurs,” Ruto said while welcoming them.
Following the onslaught, analysts have pointed out the need for the country to come up with a more counteractive approach to dealing with terrorism.
