SRC: No pay rise for county representatives

28 October 2013, 14:11

Nairobi - The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) will re-evaluate county representatives’ jobs before granting them a pay hike.

SRC chairperson, Sarah Serem says the commission had invited the county reps for the exercise but they failed to turn up.

Serem was condemned by a group of more than 100 county reps drawn from nine counties saying her commission is frustrating them and misleading the general public into believing that they are earning well, Daily Nation reports.

Meru county assembly minority leader, Stephen Nturibi Etirikia said during campaigns, the commission had gazetted that they will be earning KES 300 000 only for it to reduce the amount to KES 79 000 three days to the polling day.

SRC gave in to MPs pay increase demands after they threatened to disband the commission.
