Reprieve for Kiala as senators vote against his impeachment

Nairobi - Machakos County Deputy Governor, Bernard Kiala got reprieve after Senate voted against a motion seeking to oust him from office.
Kiala had been impeached July through a majority vote by Machakos MCAs who accused him of insubordination, nepotism and abuse of office.
An ad hoc committee that was formed to investigate his conduct found him guilty and recommended his impeachment in a report forwarded to Senate on August 4.
However, only 5 out of 25 senators upheld the committee recommendations while 17 others rejected it saying the claims therein could not be validated, Daily Nation reports.
