Raila praises Jubilee for Diaspora ID issuance plan
25 March 2014, 08:15
Nairobi - Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has applauded plans by the Jubilee government to have Kenyans living in the Diaspora issued with national Identity Cards.
Raila, who is currently visiting the US, said that was a good move that would enable them to register as voters in preparation for 2017 polls, Daily Nation reports.
Kenya’s acting ambassador to the US, Jean Kamau, announced that plans were underway for the embassy to begin renewing and issuing national IDs to Kenyans residing in US and Mexico on April 14th.
Most Kenyans living abroad did not vote in last year’s polls due to lack of preparation on the side of the electoral commission.
