President Kenyatta urges unity, shuns divisions

04 November 2013, 11:11

Mumias - President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged locals to shun divisive politics and work with his government to better their livelihoods.

The head of state, who was touring the Western Province since his inception into office earlier this year, called on leaders to be exemplary in that regard.

"Kenyans do not want to see their leaders engaged in endless political bickering at the expense of service delivery," said President Kenyatta while addressing residents who had gathered in Mumias town.

Earlier, he joined worshippers at the Anglican Church in Mumias Diocese and welcomed by The Anglican Church leader Dr. Eliud Wabukala.

Former Amani Party presidential aspirant, Musalia Mudavadi, former Vice President Moody Awori and former Justice Minister Eugen Wamalwa also joined the session.

Meanwhile, Kenyatta urged the locals to diversify their farming activities and re-assured them that his government would improve welfare of the region's women and youth.

He called upon the area's Members of Parliament to establish the necessary legislation that would ease the disbursement of funds that would empower the youth and women.

The region overwhelmingly voted for the official opposition Coalition for Reforms and Restoration of Democracy (Cord) and Amani Party in the previous election.
