Parties brace for key Siaya poll

Siaya - A fierce contest is looming in the Siaya County elections where the ruling party, Jubilee, and the opposition, Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD), have emerged as front runners for the vacant seat.
The National Alliance Party cannot be ruled out from snatching victory from under the noses of the main party, CORD.
The rescheduled elections will be held on Thursday.
Ahead of the poll, Paul Rasanga, whose earlier victory the courts nullified amid concerns of irregularities, upped the tempo as the campaign trail hit the home stretch.
“These elections are not between me and my opponents but are about the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta,” said the Orange Movement candidate in a speech delivered in his Luo dialect.
Siaya County is among the opposition party’s stronghold.
A high voter turnout is expected if previous elections and attendance at campaign rallies are anything to go buy.
While the CORD and Jubilee are odds-on favourites, National Alliance Party candidate, William Oduol, is the dark horse.
The Siaya seat fell vacant after a successful petition by Oduol that nullified Rasanga’s election.
Apart from Siaya, other by-elections will be held in Matungulu and Kibwezi, also on Thursday.
