Obure lauds High Court verdict on petition

Kisii - Kisii Senator Chris Obure, hailed the dismissal of a petition challenging his election.
The Kisii High Court dismissed the challenge by the petitioner Omingo Magara, the People’s Democratic Party chief agent, on grounds that he could not prove his case beyond reasonable doubt. The will of the people of Kisii County was duly exercised in a free and fair election,” the High Court’s Justice Sitati said at the ruling that drew a capacity crowd.
Magara suffered another blow after the court demanded that he pays for the damages caused to Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, the County Returning Officer and to the defendant.
Obure, who was elected in March, addressed the crowd that had gathered to follow the ruling and said that he thanked God who gave him the “victory both in the previous election and in the Court case.”
The petition to reverse his election in March came at a time when the main opposition Coalition for Reform and Democracy (CORD) has called for strategy meetings in a bid to recapture the seats in the oncoming by-election scheduled for October.
