Nairobi - Leaders from the Orange Democratic Movement ODM will not recognize County Commissioners, claiming they are a ploy to frustrate devolution and rig the 2017 general election.
ODM, like other leaders and members of the opposition have reacted angrily to the move by president Uhuru Kenyatta to hand the 47 commissioners executive power.
Led by the Council of Governors, the move has been criticized as a ploy to frustrate devolution which is constitutionally guaranteed.
The Amani coalition led by leader Musalia Mudavadi also weighed in on the matter, terming it a disservice to the constitution which grants certain powers to already existing mechanisms.
ODM leaders, led by Siaya Senator James Orengo, have also ridiculed the decision, terming it barbaric and say they will not recognize the move.
" We will not recognize the commissioners because they are a government project that is up to no good at all, Orengo said.
" There are already constitutionally laid out structures to deal with some of these things so the president has acted unlawfully, he added.
Suba MP John Mbadi termed the move unconstitutional.
" It is against the constitutional rights of Kenyans for the president to do such a thing and we will reject it with all we have, he said.
His counterpart Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo urged Kenyans to move against the decision.
The leaders were speaking during a funeral in Homa Bay County on Saturday.
