Kisumu - Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Members of Parliament criticized fellow legislator, Dalmas Otieno, after he claimed former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, coerced him to drop out of the race for a position in the party’s leadership.
Otieno, the Rongo MP, recently claimed the former prime minister had personally compelled him to quit the race for secretary-general’s position in the party.
“Who forced Dalmas Otieno to withdraw? If he was forced to withdraw, we ask the party leader to instruct the secretariat to allow him to return his nomination papers so that he can face the delegates on the 28th,”said ODM MP, John Mbadi.
Elizabeth Ongoro also criticized Otieno.
“Who forced him to quit? If we cannot force Honorable (Odinga), then why should we force him?” she asked.
The upcoming ODM elections come amid reported differences between the party leaders and youth that reportedly called for leadership renewal.
Since the ODM secretariat announced national party elections, there have also been reports of differences between youthful leaders and the current party leadership over how the party elections would be conducted.
Youth alleged the leadership had come up with a list of preferred candidates that it wished to back during the elections.
“We want the youth to come but they should show that they have leadership qualities and that they have a vision and a transformation agenda in their mission to move this country forward to the next level,” said ODM MP, Oburu Odinga.
