Makueni - The High Court has dismissed a petition challenging the election of Mutula Kilonzo junior as the Senator for Makueni County.
Two voters from the county had disputed Kilonzo’s nomination and clearance by the Wiper Party to vie for the seat that fell vacant after the death of his father, Mutula Kilonzo, saying it was unconstitutional, The Standard reports.
In his ruling, High Court Judge Justice David Majanja said Kilonzo’s nomination and election was legal and ordered the petitioners to pay Kilonzo KES 250, 000.
Kilonzo was pleased with the court’s decision saying it was his best gift.
His sister Kethi Kilonzo was barred from vying for the seat by the electoral commission saying that she had not registered as a voter.
