Mutua alleges smear campaign against him

Nairobi - Machakos Governor, Alfred Mutua blamed his woes on rivals that were out to discredit him and his contribution to the development of his county.
Mutua said the problems started when he announced he would not be party to political rallies because they might "spin out of control and burn Kenya."
He said since then he had received intimidating acts by agencies and commissions in Kenya.
He singled out the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission, which he said the county's Senator Johnstone Muthama used to target him.
“The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission wrote to me and asked me to appear to be grilled over supposed irregularities in purchasing vehicles in Machakos, a process that I was not party to,” he said.
He said a letter from the Ombudsman’s office was opened and passed to the media before it got to his office as part of the plans to discredit him.
Mutua said it was unfortunate the agencies that should be hailing him for the good work he was doing in Machakos were harassing him.
“I refuse to be intimidated because I am serving the poor and desperate people of Kenya and doing God's work in an efficient and transparent way,” said a defiant Mutua.
