Nairobi - Former presidential candidate and opposition leader, Kenneth Matiba has sued the government for illegal arrest and detention together with Charles Rubia in 1990.
In a petition lodged in court on Monday, Matiba claims that they were arrested for demanding the re-introduction of multi-party democracy in Kenya, Daily Nation reports.
He is demanding KES 9.1 million from the government as compensation.
He claims to have lost all his wealth and succumbed to ill health during his fight for multiparty democracy during the Kanu regime and that his actions were legal and democratic.
