MPs vote to increase pay

28 May 2013, 18:04

Nairobi - MPs on Tuesday adopted a report that recommended a legal notice reducing their salaries be revoked, Daily Nation reports.

The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), through a gazette notice, had pegged MPs salary at KES 532 500 down from KES 851 000 earned by members of the Tenth Parliament.

Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi said that the salaries commission had violated the law because it used the Legal Notice to repeal the law, yet, as per the Constitution, legislation was the exclusive mandate of the two Houses of Parliament.
