MPs pass Matrimonial Property Bill, amend property sharing clause

Nairobi - Things got heated in the National Assembly after 87 members of parliament vetoed certain provisions in the Matrimonial Property Bill, Standard Digital reports.
The section which certain MP's did not see eye-to-eye regarded how a couple should share their property if they got divorced or separated. 28 MP's voted towards a fair split of 50-50, but an overwhelming 87 people, mostly men said the property should distributed to the breadwinner in the marriage.
Majority Leader Aden Duale pointed out that in an African context , this was a matter to be decided by a husband and a wife, “we should try and look for a win-win situation because we are passing a law for the bedroom here,” Duale said.
