Kibaki in Australia for Commonwealth summit

Australia - The Daily Nation reports that President Kibaki and his entourage were received by senior Australian government officials, Foreign Affairs minister Moses Wetang’ula and Kenyans residing in Australia, on his arrival at Perth International Airport on Wednesday evening.

The Head of State is in Australia to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which brings together delegates from 54 member countries to orchestrate common policies on certain contentious issues and current events.

President Kibaki will also be briefing other world leaders on emerging security issues in the horn of Africa region.

The theme of this year’s Summit is, “Building National Resilience, Building Global Resilience”, reflects the importance of addressing these challenges at multiple levels: as individual states, as members of the Commonwealth, and as part of the global community.
