Jubilee MPs threaten to expose rail project schemers

27 January 2014, 09:45

Nairobi - MPs allied to the Jubilee alliance threatened to expose businesspeople they claimed were behind the problems facing the construction of the controversial Standard Gauge railway project.

The legislatures have warned that if the controversy raged on, they would name the businesspeople behind the controversy.

They further called on President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto, to continue with the railway construction plan.

The group of legislatures and senators, led by the Leader of Majority, Aden Ndwale, noted that individuals sabotaging  the railway project constituted businessmen who were denied  tender of the project and were now “hitting back” on the government.

“Kuna wale walizoea kukulia serikali ya Moi wakati wa Goldenberg, wakaendeleza Anglo-leasing wakachukua pesa ya forensic lab. Bring these names to the public so that Wakenya waone (There are those who used to benefit during the Moi government at the infamous Goldenberg, they went on with Anglo-leasing and misused forensic lab funds. Bring these names to the fore so that Kenyans can know them),” said the leaders during a thanksgiving ceremony in Dandora.

This comes just a day after the Jubilee-allied leaders issued a one week ultimatum to the President and his Deputy to either continue with the construction or name the business persons behind the sabotage.

Controversy has marred the railway project since President Kenyatta launched it towards the end of last year.
