JSC urged to ignore summons

Nairobi - The East Africa Law Society (EALS) has said that it was unconstitutional for the National Assembly Legal Affairs committee chaired by Ainabkoi MP Samuel Chepkonga to summon the Judiciary Service Commission.
In a statement to Daily Nation, EALS President James Mwamu said the parliamentary committee has no mandate for the summons and that the move amounts to summoning the Chief Justice who doubles as Head of the Judiciary and President of the Supreme Court.
The statement came in the wake of Chief Judiciary Registrar Gladys Shollei's appearance before the same committee. Shollei was on Monday placed on compusory leave by the JSC pending investigations on claims of misconduct.
