IEBC says it's ready for by-elections

Nairobi - The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) expressed preparedness for the by-elections scheduled for early next month.
IEBC chairman, Isaac Hassan, said preparations had proceeded well and the polls will proceed as scheduled around the country.
“The commission is fully prepared for all the by-elections. In Lungalunga the contestants have been cleared and their election papers have already started being printed. The commission is still clearing contestants from Bungoma and other parts of the country. We have enough commissioners and staff on the ground in every constituency,” said Hassan.
The commission has set aside KES 400 million to cater for all the by-elections.
However, a section of politicians particularly from the western region had questioned the credibility of the electoral commission to conduct the by-elections.
They claimed the public had lost confidence in the commission conducting a credible poll following the questionable manner it conducted the March 13 elections.
The elections were greatly compromised by the failure of the Biometric Voter Registration kits that left the commission stranded with the outdated manual voting system.
