Governor Mutua wades off criticism over road

15 July 2014, 11:27

Machakos - Machakos Governor, Alfred Mutua hit out at critics accusing them of spreading propaganda on the 33 kilometre road from Kithimani to Makutano ma Mwala.

He challenged critics of his development projects, especially the road which was billed as the fastest built road in Kenya and possibly Africa, to rather “take a personal drive and film” the road instead.

The Governor defended the quality of the road which has of late been at the centre of attention over its quality with critics saying that the facility was hurriedly done as a "public relations gimmick" than a service to the people of Machakos.

Mutua insisted doubters must consult engineering experts and to residents served by the road for clarity.

“The road is perfect, has a strong base and double seal chippings with bitumen. Those criticizing it are clearly part of an orchestrated campaign and do not understand road construction,” he said.

The Governor vowed to continue with his duty to empower the people of Machakos.

“We will continue serving the people of Machakos with diligence, squeezing every shilling so as to give more to our people who have languished in poverty for years. We are in a new Kenya. We will not be cowed. We have just started service to the people,” he said.
