Nairobi - An audit report has revealed that there were irregularities in procurement procedures in the county government of Machakos, headed by Governor Alfred Mutua.
According to a report by the Auditor General, funds allocated to the county may have been misappropriated in the Mutua led county administration, The Standard reports.
The report which was prepared between January and June last year, further faults the manner in which the taking over of assets and liabilities from defunct local governments was done.
It says the process was not well done since it was not guided by the Transition Authority.
It is alleged that Mutua spent KES 7.5 million but he could not produce documents to show how the money was spent.
It is also alleged thatches 2.9 million was spent towards the funeral expenses of the late Makueni Senator, Mutula Kilonzo, with Mutua being given KES 1million to offer as contributions at the funeral.
Mutua has been praised as the best performing governor after the launching of the Machakos city, buying of security vehicles and the recent opening of the Machakos People’s park.
