Duale wants Ocampo's remarks on ICC cases probed

10 February 2014, 09:19

Nairobi - Former International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor, Luis Moreno Ocampo’s remarks that some diplomats had asked him to prevent Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto from contesting in last year’s polls have caused a stir in the Jubilee Coalition.

According to Parliament’s Majority Leader, Aden Duale, Parliament should investigate Ocampo’s remarks, saying there was an alleged plot to fix President Kenyatta and his deputy Ruto at the ICC, The Standard reports.

Duale said he would seek support from his Jubilee counterparts to present a motion in Parliament to investigate the matter, and also to compel Philip Waki to make public the contents in the secret envelope he handed to former UN Secretary General Koffi Annan, after his commission finished its investigation in the 2007/8 post election violence.

President Kenyatta will chair a Jubilee Parliamentary Group meeting at State House, where the matter will be discussed.
