Duale: ICC pull out will protect Kenya's sovereignty
04 September 2013, 14:04
Nairobi - The Jubilee coalition says Kenya would be able to deal with its conflicts without intervention from foreign countries if it pulls out of the Rome Statute.
According to the Leader of Majority in Parliament Aden Duale, they are pushing for Kenya’s withdrawal from the statute since the coalition had lost trust in the International Criminal Court’s sovereignty, reports Daily Nation.
He said they want Kenya to be among the many countries in the world that are not signatories to the Rome Statute.
According to Duale, countries like India, China and the United States are not signatories to the Rome Statute because ICC cannot make independent decisions due to political manipulation.
The motion seeking to have Kenya withdrawn from the Rome Statute will be discussed in Parliament when MPs hold a special sitting on Thursday.
