Duale: Raila must quit politics to get send-off package

12 November 2013, 08:00

Nairobi - Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and former Vice – President Kalonzo Musyoka must quit active politics for them to receive their retirement packages.

The retirement Bill was cleared by National Treasury Cabinet Secretary, Henry Rotich, but Parliament’s Majority Leader, Adan Duale vowed to block it until the two quit politics, Daily Nation reports.

On his part, the former PM vowed to remain in politics, which he says is a duty and service to his country and to humanity and therefore he would not quit politics for financial gain.

This will be Parliament’s second attempt to have Odinga and Kalonzo get the retirement package. During his tenure, retired President Mwai Kibaki refused to sign the Retirement Benefits (Deputy President and Designated State Officers) Bill, 2012, after MPs added in clauses that would have seen them to benefit from the Bill.
