Court upholds Oparanya's election
13 September 2013, 16:45
Kakamega - Justice Juma Chitembwe made his ruling on Friday morning and upheld the election of Kakamega County governor Wycliffe Oparanya, which had been contested by Mabel Muruli, The Standard reports.
The two and half hours long judgment stated that Muruli did not prove her case and that the IEBC was right in barring her from contesting for the gubernatorial seat as she did not have a degree certificate or a letter from the commission of higher education in case the university attended is out of Kenya, as was her case.
Judge Chitembwe ruled that Muruli's rights cannot override the rights of more than 500,000 voters who are registered in the county, and thus the election was free and fair and the petition dismissed.
