County members, SRC deadlock far from over

Nairobi - There seems to be no end in sight to the impasse between the County Assembly members and the Salary and Remuneration Commission (SRC) after the Assembly members expressed lack of confidence in the commission.
The county leaders under the umbrella of County Representative Forum (CRF) met with the Senate Committee on devolution and accused the SRC of producing two different documents of the same report to support claims that the county representatives had agreed to be evaluated.
“County Assemblies do not have any confidence in the commission itself and the PwC audit farm doing a job re-evaluation because of the contradictions that we have pointed out in the reports that have been tabled before the senate committee. It is for them to determine how to navigate the issue,” said the CRF Chairperson, Dr Nuhu Abdi, after a meeting with the Senate Committee.
The leaders further castigated the SRC for not taking into consideration public views it collected about the estimated amount of money that county representatives should be paid as salary.
After accusing the SRC of dishonesty, the county assembly members indicated they would not resume work any time soon.
However, Kipchumba Murkomen, who led the Senate Committee on devolution in the meeting county assembly members on Tuesday, said that they supported better remuneration for the County leaders but was still willing to bring the two sides together until neutral ground was reached.
