CORD to fight Kidero's impeachment
13 September 2013, 18:31
Nairobi - Members of the County Assembly allied to the main opposition party, Coalition for Reform and Democracy (CORD) have vowed to “crush” attempts to impeach Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.
Jubilee legislatures have mulled a plan to impeach the embattled governor, following his altercation with Nairobi women’s representative, Rachael Shebesh.
CORD County assembly members have downplayed threats by the Jubilee members who are pushing to use their numerical strength and all resources to sail the motion in the house.
Majority leader, Elia Okumu, exuded confidence that the motion will face a humiliating defeat in the house if members of the Jubilee party would not abandon their push introducing the impeachment motion.
The developments come a day after the governor survived a petition that challenged his election eligibility.
Opposition members believe that their opponents have ill motives.
They further allege that the impeachment motion citing the governor’s gross misconduct is a scheme to hide their real intentions.
The police are still investigating the assault charges leveled against the governor.
