Machakos - Machakos County governor Alfred Mutua, has denied threatening two members of the County Assembly as reported in sections of the press.
Governor Mutua said that he was alarmed by the statements which he termed as false.
He added the reports were a blatant lie, calculated to tarnish his good name for political expediency.
“These and other machinations are part of a bigger scheme by Mutua’s political detractors who are afraid of his development record and who have vowed to slow him down through this reckless mudslinging,” read a statement from his office.
The statement further added that the claims were not only false but also malicious and reckless hence amounted to a criminal offence under the laws of the country.
“They are also actionable for defamation,” read the statement.
An MCA had recorded a statement at the Masinga Police Station last Friday alleging that the Mutua had threatened him.
Ndalani Ward Representative Stephen Muthuka, claimed the hostility started during the launch of a comprehensive water and food security programme in Masinga last Wednesday, when he challenged the governor to deal with some county executives allegedly misusing their dockets.
“By the very nature in which they are being sensationalized, it is clear that they are aimed at causing public despondency and disorder as well as to demean the character and good standing of governor Mutua to the public,” Mutua said.
