The woman’s eldest son found the bodies and a hand written
suicide letter which indicated she did it due to poverty, feeling she had no
one to turn to.
The deceased in her letter also instructed her neighbours to
bury her body and that of her children leave the bodies to decompose in their
home if they were not up for the task.
A distraught neighbour, Kieni OCPD Michael Mbaluku said that
the deceased did appear depressed.
“We suspect the incident occurred late in the evening, but
it was only reported at night at around 8.30pm,” said Mbaluku.
The deceased’s eldest son who is a form three student saw
his mother’s lifeless body hanging from the roof.
He then later found his siblings stuffed in the water tank.
The bodies have now been taken to the Nanyuki Teaching and
Referral Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination and preservation.
Other deeply affected naighbours told the media that, “It
was very rare for her to engage neighbours in a conversation and it was hard to
tell whether she faced problems of such magnitude, which could lead her to kill
her children and commit suicide.”
