Workers at Osiri Gold mine suffocate after ventilation block

Migori – Workers at Osiri
Gold mine on Wednesday suffocated while working due to the ventilation system
being blocked by a landslide leading to the death of one and leaving four
others being treated.
According toCitizen TV
five miners are still trapped inside.
OCPD Dishon Chebeka has
asked workers to be on alert ahead of the rainy season.

In 2015 the government has
called for the gold mines to be closed however over a 1000 families bloacked
the order because of the families dependent on the mines for income.
Meanwhile a CID officer in
Marsabit is still missing two days after the vehicle he was traveling in was
swept by floods at Illeret.
The officer was heading to
a cross border peace meeting between Kenya and Ethiopia when river Balal broke
its banks following a heavy downpour.
