Wife swapping in Kakamega County gone bad

23 June 2016, 17:47

Kakamega – A wife swapping agreement turned sour when one of the wives refused to go back to her husband after living with another man for three months.

According to Standard Media Susan Juma from Lurambi vowed never to go back to her husband.

Mangala and Ernest swapped wives after it became clear that Mangala was having an affair with Ernest wife.

However Mangala now wants his wife back and has said he is not afraid to use force to get her back.

However Juma has said her husband was abusive whereas her new husband is responsible and caring.

Mangala’s father said he disapproves with the agreement and was not consulted.

Juma has threatened to run away with her children if she is made to go back to her husband.

The BBC reported that in 2014 President Uhuru Kenyatta signed into law a controversial marriage bill legalising polygamy.

It brings civil law, where a man was only allowed one wife, into line with customary law, where some cultures allow multiple partners.

Much controversy was caused by an amendment to the bill which allowed men to take more wives without consulting existing spouses.

Traditionally, first wives are supposed to give prior approval.
