Wetang'ula meets Britain over IEBC protests

18 May 2016, 16:45

Nairobi - CORD co principal Moses Wetang'ula has met with British representatives over the state of the IEBC.

The Star reported that the Bungoma Senator met British High Commissioner Nic Hailey to discuss political reforms. The two discussed the rising political tension ahead of next year’s general election.

Wetang’ula represented CORD. The two discussed how to reform the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to avoid chaos.

Earlier this month, US Ambassador Robert Godec, Hailey and nine other envoys from the West, issued a statement calling for dialogue to build confidence in the electoral commission.

They said.

“To ensure a credible, peaceful poll in 2017, we call on Kenya’s leaders and citizens to come together through dialogue to build confidence in the electoral system. While the responsibility for doing so rests first with elected and appointed officials, this is a challenge for all Kenyans and everyone should join in good faith,” the envoys said.

However, a few says later, Citizen TV reported that a court granted CORD the chance to protest the presence and actions of the IEBC.
