Nairobi - President Uhuru Kenyatta has revealed that he is working on measures to make Primary and secondary education completely free.
Speaking at Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls in Nyeri during his tour of the County, the President also pledged to inject more resources to the education sector to ensure that school operations run smoothly.
“My dream and my aspiration in my time is to ensure that we get to a stage where within the next five years we have truly free primary and secondary so that no child in Kenya from whatever social background … will be denied education,” said the President in a clip aired on NTV.
Currently, only primary education is offered for free in a programme launched by the former President, Mwai Kibaki in 2003.
The free primary education program has however faced many challenges such as delayed disbursement of funds, teacher shortage and indiscipline which have forced parents to keep moving their children from one school to another hence affecting quality of education.
