WATCH: Doctors welcome law allowing them to market themselves

14 February 2016, 08:47

Nairobi - Doctors in the country have welcomed a new law allowing them to advertise their services.

According to the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB) CEO, Daniel Yumbya, the new laws allows hospitals and doctors to advertise the services they offer as well as the cost of those services.

In an interview with NTV, Yumbya said the move will help enlighten patients about available health experts within their locality and hence help them make informed health choices.

“Patients are in the darkness and we cannot sit here as a board and say that since the doctors are not supposed to advertise, we shall give them a blanket ban,” he observed.

Advertising is currently been against doctors profession ethics and was an offense punishable by law, Standard reports.

The board is working on advertising guidelines which will be gazetted by March to give doctors the chance to advertise freely.
