WATCH: British man arrested for shooting dead Kenyan girlfriend

06 June 2016, 15:49

Nairobi - A British man has been arrested in Kenya for allegedly shooting his girlfriend dead at his home.

The Star reported that Richard Alden was arraigned in court on Monday but not charged for allegedly shooting and killing his girlfriend at his home in the posh Karen suburb of the Kenyan Capital City Nairobi.

The Briton, who is a former CEO of one of Kenya's biggest internet service providers was not charged as police asked for more time to complete investigations. Alden was remanded for five days.

He was arrested on Saturday after reporting that the woman he had spent most of the day with at his home shot herself dead in his house. He reported the incident at Karen police station but was later arrested after Police examinations pointed at the injuries to the woman not being consistent with suicide.

A further report on Citizen TV identified the woman as 42-year-old Grace Wangeci.

She was shot in the stomach. It has further been reported that Alden, 63, has been in the country since 2015. His work permit will expire in December 2017 and is a licensed gun holder.

Police reports stated that Alden had no previous brushes with the law.

Incidences of licensed gun holders in Kenya using their firearms against people they know have increased in recent times.

Just ten days ago, The Star reported that a man shot and killed another man who he found in his home with his girlfriend in Kiambu town, 20 kilometres South East of Nairobi.
