WATCH: 87-year-old woman remanded for possessing two stolen chairs

06 January 2016, 14:12

Migori - An 87-year old woman in Migori will spend two months in prison after she was allegedly found in possession of two stolen plastic chairs.

In a clip aired on Citizen TV, Risper Ongwena's daughter, Margaret Onyango, said the chairs were stolen by her grandson who has since disappeared.

The chairs were worth KES 1100.

Onyango said her family was poor and thus, unable to raise money for bail or hire a lawyer, according to Kenyans.co.ke.

She also lamented that her mother’s health had deteriorated during her stay in prison.

Court ordered Risper, who has spent half a month behind bars, to be remanded until February 24 when her theft case would be determined.

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Keriako Tobiko has, however, ordered for immediate action to save the granny.
