Video: Police fire live bullets at CORD protesters in Kisumu, Siaya

24 May 2016, 10:22

Nairobi - It has emerged that police officers who were deployed to contain CORD demos fired live bullets at protesters.

A vehicle was spotted firing at protesters in Kisumu, which Robert Alai, an activist, has confirmed belonged to the CID.

One person was shot dead and four others escaped with serious gunshot wounds, with witnesses confirming that police indeed used live bullets.

The one who succumbed was not participating in the protests, The Star reports.

In the neighbouring Siaya County, one protester died on the spot while the second succumbed before doctors could remove a bullet that was lodged in his chest.

The Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has expressed condolences to the families of the slain, Citizen Digital reports, but said the mission was successful.
