Uhuru receives new Ghanaian envoy to Kenya

18 February 2016, 20:51

Nairobi - President Uhuru Kenyatta Thursday received credentials from incoming Ghanaian High Commissioner to Kenya Ambassador Kwame Asamoah Tenkorang.

Speaking during the brief ceremony at State House, Nairobi, The Star reported that President Kenyatta lauded the existing co-operation between Kenya and Ghana.

“We endeavour to take the existing bilateral relations between our countries to a higher level for the benefit of our people,” President Kenyatta said.

Noting that Kenya and Ghana are strategically located in East and West African regions respectively, President Kenyatta emphasized the need for the two countries to step up their partnerships to link the two regional economic blocs.

The new High Commissioner said he has been tasked to ensure the cordial relations between Ghana and Kenya are grown to the new heights based on bilateral agreements signed by the two countries.

Earlier, President Kenyatta bade farewell to outgoing Algerian Ambassador to Kenya Saad Maandi.

Capital News reported that the President commended the outgoing ambassador for enhancing bilateral relations between Kenya and Algeria during his tour of duty in the country.

The President recalled his State visit to Algeria last year, saying it opened up many avenues for cooperation between the two countries.

He said Kenya has a lot to learn from Algeria, especially in the energy sector and in the preservation of culture for education purposes.

The President said the two countries have historical similarities and face same challenges hence the need to continue exchanging ideas on how to overcome them through local solutions.

The outgoing ambassador thanked President Kenyatta and the people of Kenya for supporting him during his tour of duty.

He said the next phase of the relations between Kenya and Algeria need to focus on boosting trade and investment.

He said the two countries should continue working closely in addressing challenges facing them and the continent.
