Uber driver escapes arson attack in Riruta

Nairobi - An Uber taxi driver escaped an arson attack in Riruta Satellite on Tuesday night.
It is alleged that the driver was taking a customer to Riruta to pick his girlfriend when five men ambushed him
When they got to Satellite area, Daily Nation reports that the excused himself to pass water but as he did so, five men emerged and started damaging the vehicle.
According to Standard, the man who had hired the cab was among the five who later set the car alight.
The driver escaped unhurt.

This is not the first time an Uber taxi driver is being attacked in a similar manner.
Last month, another driver was beaten up and his car burnt down by people who laid a trap on him as he dropped a client at Kilimani area.
Many partner drivers of the global taxi service in Nairobi have reported intimidation, harassment and attacks by suspected local taxi operators who have been reported as saying that Uber was killing their business.
Uber has become increasingly popular in the Kenyan market since its launch in 2015, with customers citing its cheap model, security and efficiency.
