Two suspected 2014 Mpeketoni terrorists acquitted

Mombasa – Two men allegedly linked to the 2014 Mpeketoni terrorist attack have been acquitted by the Mombasa High court.

According to Capital FM both Mahadi Swaleh and Dyana Suleiman were both acquitted by High Court Judge, Martin Muya who stated prosecution failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt they were involved.

They were being charged for 60 counts of murder.

In 2014 dozens of  Al-Shabaab militants wielding automatic rifles attacked the small coastal town setting two hotels on fire and opening fire on town residents.

The onslaught occurred while residents were watching World Cup games.

It is suggested that the attacks were motivated by religious divide.
