Trans-Nzoia police pelted with stones during illicit brew crackdown

Nairobi – Police officers in Trans-Nzoia County were pelted with stones
during a crackdown operation on illicit brews forcing them to flee.
According to Standard Media police officers have been
conducting raids on illicit brew dens early hours on Tuesday morning however
were forced to flee when intoxicated consumers pelted them with stones.
Despite warning shots the mob was not deterred.

Some arrests were made but area senior chief, Joseph Wayele
was disappointment over the moral decay taking place in the area.
According to Wayele more than 2 000 people have been
arrested since the crackdown operations began last year.
Meanwhile according to government, they have destroyed over
five million liters of illicit brew in the past two weeks.
Government spokesperson, Eric Kiraithe said in press briefing
last Thursday that operations are being led by Interior PS Dr Karanja Kibicho.
The aim is to destroy cartels involved in the production,
distribution and sale of illicit brews across the country.
