This will help IEBC to end rigging of Presidential elections

Nairobi - The IEBC wants to start announcing Presidential election results at the constituency and county levels.
The results are usually announced by the Commission chair at the national tallying centre, which according to CORD leaves room for rigging.
According to The Star, IEBC chair Issack Hassan wants County returning officers to be given the mandate to announce Presidential results.
Hassan said this will help ease pressure on IEBC and the presidential returning officer at the national tallying centre, as well as make the results more transparent and acceptable.

CORD leader, Raila Odinga had raised questions on the credibility of the IEBC, saying it could not conduct a free and fair election.
Raila, who said that the ruling Jubilee alliance was planning to rig the 2017 Presidential election, said they cannot go to the election if IEBC is not reconstituted.
This led to the formation of a Joint Parliamentary Select Committee with members drawn from both CORD and Jubilee to find a solution to the problems facing the electoral body.
Talks on IEBC reforms are still ongoing.
