Meru - A teacher in Meru County was charged Tuesday for sexually assaulting 10 pupils.
45-year-old Julius Mwiti is said to have used his fingers to penetrate the private parts of the girls aged between 8 and 11 between November last year and March 7 this year.
Mwiti however denied the charges and was released on bond, amid reports that he is also facing another case over the support of a child he sired with a former pupil at the same school.
Teen pregnancies have been on the rise in schools, with a recent survey blaming it on teachers and motorbike taxi operators.
According to The Star, most of the teen mothers end up dropping out of school or entering into early marriage.
