Teacher canes pupil to death over KES 40

25 May 2016, 12:22

Nairobi - A teacher at Kiserian Primary School in Kajiado North County has been arrested for killing his Class Six pupil.

Dickson Isidi is reported to have killed 11-year-old Loice Wanjiru after she failed to raise KES 40 tuition fee.

According to The Star, Wanjiru collapsed after Isidi caned and then pushed her to the wall.

She died upon arrival at the Kenyatta National Hospital where she had been referred for treatment.

Teachers have been administering capital punishment on pupils even though it is illegal in Kenya.

In January, another teacher caned a 14-year-old boy to death for reporting to school late.

The school head however absolved the responsible teacher of blame saying the boy was epileptic, Daily Nation reported.
