Nairobi - The Ministry of Education has introduced new guidelines for Standard One admissions.
The guidelines, contained in the Kenya School Readiness Assessment Tool, will replace normal examinations with a list of other assessments to test the general character and capabilities of pupils.
Areas such as languages and literacy, mathematical thinking, creative arts and physical competencies, scientific thinking, life skills, music and movement competencies, spirituality and morals will be appraised.
According to Standard, a pupil’s ability to say a short prayer, use of polite words, interact with strangers, take care of domestic animals, will go a long way in determining a pupil’s readiness to join Standard One.
