Ruto denies man named in NYS scandal is his brother

25 February 2016, 22:48

Nairobi - Deputy President William Ruto has denied reports that Luke Samoei is his brother as claimed by former devolution CS Anne Waiguru in an affidavit on the KES 791 million NYS scam.

According to The Star, the DP's communications secretary said he has no brother by that name "as alleged in memos or affidavits and reported in some section of the media".

His Secretary David Mugonyi noted this in a statement on Thursday, following the affidavit that stated Samoei was Ruto's younger brother.

Ruto's personal assistant Farouk Kibet was also implicated in the National Youth Service scandal alongside Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale.

The former Cabinet Secretary claimed Murkomen visited her office in the company of Samoei to allegedly solicit for a contract for Samoei's company.

"At noon, Murkomen visited my office in the company of a person he introduced as Luke Kimutai Samoei, the younger brother of his excellency DP Ruto," Waiguru said in the affidavit.

"Samoei requested for business for his company by the name Equity Tech. He said I should be biased in giving it good work."

Capital News further reported that Samoei denied being the DP's brother.

Samoei admitted seeking contracts at the National Youth Service (NYS) which he did not get and insisted he was not aided by any top Jubilee leader.

The NYS scandal has seen many high ranking government officials implicated with all denying they were involved in any loss of funds at the organization.
